I just remembered a poem I wrote a few years ago:

Oh Life, How you fool me with sweet lemons
She sat. The streets crowded.
Unnoticed. Untouched.
Hunger. Growling in the pit of her stomach.
She had nothing.
Strangers passed. And still nothing.
Desperation. And then.
A lemon. Rolling.
Within reach.
Her fingers wrapped around the delicate fruit.

Saliva formed.
Dirty fingernails unravelling hope.
The first bite.
Her eyes lit up. Surprise.
Sweetness.
